I spent 2 weeks in January volunteering in Belize with International Service Learning (ISL). I participated in 80 hours of volunteer work. We set up community clinics in rural villages, and I helped assess patients and prepare them to see the physician. We also went door to door in the villages to register villagers for the clinic and spread awareness. I spoke Spanish throughout my time in Belize. The 2 weeks was an incredible learning experience and opened my eyes to a different culture and way of life. I saw how important commmunity and public health is. I practiced Spanish and came back with more respect for other ways of life.
